Newcomer Olivko brings Gold for Tunisia in New York International Olive Oil Competition 

Tunisian producer Olivko won a Gold medal at its inaugural appearance at the world’s largest olive oil competition in New York on Thursday, impressing the judges with the fresh, peppery notes of its extra virgin 2016 Chetoui. 

Newcomer Olivko was one of only two Tunisian oils to bring in top honors, the other being the more established brand Zeet. Italy, Spain, USA and Greece were the most-awarded nations overal,l in a contest that rated 910 olive oils from 27 countries. .  Olivko’s olives mainly come from the historic Dougga valley, a UNESCO Heritage site In northern Tunisia. The oil is described as a “an earthy, fresh and flavourful oil, with a mouth-watering aroma and distinctive peppery notes.” 

“This award is not only for me, but for the entire Tunisian olive oil sector,” said Olivko founder Karim Fitouri, “it shows our country has huge potential as a highquality, branded olive oil producer. After this encouragement , we must take our production and markteting to the next level so we can compete on the world stage.”
